Sunrise on the River, a TV drama about water resources and environmental protection, is set to air on Thursday on Hunan Satellite TV and Mango TV.
Directed by Han Xiaojun, it stars Huang Zhizhong, Mei Ting and Jiang Wu.
The drama takes place in the fictional city of Qijiang, where environmental issues, particularly water pollution, have come to light.
Huang plays the role of Zheng Hanjiang, a professor at Qijiang University, who is appointed the city's deputy mayor in charge of environmental protection. He embarks on a mission to find a balance between environmental conservation and economic development.
Teaming up with environmental activists, Zheng meticulously investigates the identity of the company responsible for covertly releasing wastewater into nearby water sources.
The storyline addresses a range of ecological and environmental governance issues, including water, air and soil pollution control. Narratives include improving hygiene in street food stalls, the resolution of covert wastewater discharge incidents and the development of hotels.
Through these stories, the drama seeks to vividly capture China's determination in the battle against pollution and practice of creating a beautiful country.
